The story behind the legend
Once upon a time...
Jean Navarre Madon, better known as Georges Madon, was one of the most remarkable aces of French aviation during the First World War. Born in 1892 in Bizerte, Tunisia, he showed an early passion for flying. After failing his first attempt to become a military pilot due to an accident, he persisted and finally joined the French Air Force in 1915. He started out as an observer before obtaining his pilot's license and quickly distinguishing himself through his daring and skill, forging a solid reputation among his comrades.
Throughout the conflict, Madon proved himself to be fearless and inventive, leading numerous reconnaissance and combat missions. He racked up 41 confirmed victories, although some sources suggest a higher number if unconfirmed victories are included.
After the armistice, Georges Madon continued his involvement in aviation, participating in demonstrations and advocating for the recognition of the military pilot profession. Unfortunately, he was killed in 1924 during a training flight in Villacoublay, at the age of 32. His name remains associated with the generation of aviation pioneers, and he is honored as one of the most brilliant representatives of the chivalrous and heroic spirit of French aviation during the Great War.
