The story behind the legend
Once upon a time...
The Spartan 7W Executive is an American luxury aircraft from the 1930s. These civilian aircraft were requisitioned as military transport aircraft in 1942 by the USAAF, who designated them UC-71. After the war, they were returned to their civilian owners.
NC17656 (S/N 25), originally purchased by Luzier's Inc. served the USAAF from 1942 to 1945 before being acquired by aviator Paul Mant and re-registered as N47W in 1954. It appeared in two feature films: Jungle Flight and the Academy Award-winning When Worlds Collide. Still registered in the USA, it was transferred to France in 2017.
