The story behind the legend
Once upon a time...
The Blériot XI is an emblematic aircraft of pioneering aviation. Designed by French engineer Louis Blériot, it made history by becoming the first aircraft to successfully cross the English Channel on July 25, 1909. This historic flight was made by Louis Blériot himself, who took off from Calais, France, and landed in Dover, UK, after around 37 minutes in the air.
The Blériot XI was a high-wing monoplane with an Anzani piston engine, and played a crucial role in the development of aviation by demonstrating the possibility of long-distance flights over water. This achievement helped popularize the idea of aviation as a practical means of transport, and established Louis Blériot as a major figure in aviation history.
