The story behind the legend

Once upon a time...

Created in 1933 on the initiative of Suzanne Deutsch de la Meurthe and the Aéro-Club de France, the third Coupe Deutsch is a pure speed race, reserved for aircraft with an engine capacity of less than 8 liters. The aim is to improve aeronautical techniques by pushing the limits of aerodynamics and improving engine performance.

The course for this event consisted of 20 laps of a 100 km circuit starting and finishing at the Étampes airfield and passing through Chartres and Dammarie, covering a total of 2,000 km with a refueling stop halfway through.

1935 EDITION

For the third event, which took place on May 19, 1935, the competition was fierce between the five qualified aircraft, all manufactured by Caudron. This time, Delmotte won in his C-460 with a 330 hp Renault engine, at an average speed of 444 km/h. As stipulated in the rules, the third Deutsch Cup went to the Aéro-Club de France, as the flying club of the winning country.
