The story behind the legend
Once upon a time...
The Alpha Jet is a two-seat tandem jet trainer and tactical support aircraft, designed to meet the requirements of a program established jointly by the French and German Air Forces.
The Alpha Jet is the first aircraft jointly produced by Dassault and Breguet. It was intended to succeed the Fouga-Magister and Lockheed T 33.
The first flight of prototype 01 took place in Istres on October 26, 1973, with Jean-Marie Saget at the controls. The aircraft proved to be highly maneuverable and problem-free at transonic speeds.
The first production Alpha Jet E, intended for the French Air and Space Force, which ordered 175 units, made its maiden flight in Istres on November 4, 1977, and entered operational service on January 30, 1979.
The performance and safety of the Alpha Jet led to its selection in 1981 to replace the Fouga Magister in the Patrouille de France. For 40 years, they have successfully promoted the Patrouille de France. The aircraft has not undergone any fundamental modifications. The only notable changes are the blue, white, and red “livery,” the nose light, the removal of the sight, and finally, the smoke container attached under the belly. This replaces the cannon container, allowing the famous tricolor plume to be left in the sky.
