"Alpha Jet - PAF" frame

The Alpha Jet is a two-seater tandem jet for training and tactical support, designed in response to a program drawn up jointly by the French and German air forces.

The Alpha Jet was the first aircraft produced jointly by Dassault and Breguet. Destined to succeed the Fouga-Magister and Lockheed T 33.

The prototype 01 made its maiden flight at Istres on October 26, 1973, with Jean-Marie Saget at the controls. The aircraft proved to be highly maneuverable, with no problems at transonic speeds.

The first production Alpha Jet E for the French Air Force, which had ordered 175 units, made its maiden flight at Istres on November 4, 1977, and entered operational service on January 30, 1979.

Since 1981, the Alpha Jet's performance and safety credentials have seen it chosen to replace the Fouga Magister of the Patrouille de France. For the past 40 years, these aircraft have successfully ensured the reputation of the Patrouille de France. The aircraft has undergone no fundamental modifications. The only notable changes are the blue-white-red “livery”, the nose light, the sight which has been removed, and finally, the smoke container attached to the underside of the belly. This replaces the cannon container, leaving the famous tricolor plume in the sky.
