The story behind the legend

Once upon a time...

The F-4 Phantom II is a military aircraft designed from 1953. It is one of the most important American military aircraft of the 20th century and the most produced Western fighter aircraft since the Korean War. The 5,195th and final aircraft was delivered in 1981, after more than 20 years of uninterrupted production. During the Vietnam War, the production rate of the F-4 was 72 units per month.

It is one of the very few aircraft to have been used simultaneously by the US Air Force, the US Navy and the US Marine Corps, as well as by the two aerobatic patrols, the Blue Angels (US Navy) and the Thunderbirds (US Air Force).

Originally designated AH-1, it was renamed F4H by the US Navy, and F-110 Spectre by the US Air Force. Its current name F-4 became official on September 18, 1962.

We present here the F-4 Phantom II in its beautiful VF-111 "Sundowners" livery from the late 1960's with the famous sunset on the tail.
