The story behind the legend
Once upon a time...
The 14-P-1 PBY-5 Catalina was flown by Ens. Tanner of VP-14 on December 7, 1941, with instructions to "remain alert during this time of great tension." Hours before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Tanner spotted a miniature Japanese submarine attempting to enter the harbor. The attacker was destroyed by a combined attack from Tanner and the destroyer USS Ward.
At Barnstormer USA and as part of the Barnstormer Preservation Program, we are honored to be able to produce this jacket with the exceptional support of the Soaring By The Sea Foundation, which preserves and flies this magnificent Catalina from its base in Eugene, Oregon. This great foundation and members are dedicated to preserving our military heritage, honoring our veterans, and educating our younger generations, while supporting the local and aviation communities.
For each "Cat" jacket sold, Barnstormer will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Soaring By The Sea Foundation to keep the aircraft flying.
By donating a Barnstormer USA garment you are helping to preserve our aviation heritage and honor our veterans!
