The story behind the legend
Once upon a time...
The Curtiss P-36 Hawk prototype made its first flight in May 1935.
When the Second World War became inevitable, France was in need of fighters to equip its air force units, and the government placed an order with Curtiss for what would be known as the Curtiss H-75. Robust and maneuverable, but slower than the Messerschmitt 109s, the H-75 would equip the French Air Force squadrons during the Battle of France in 1940, alongside the MS-406 and D-520.
This Hawk arrived in France in April 1939 and served with the 1st Escadrille, Groupe de Combat II/5 Lafayette at Reims.
This American fighter is powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-1830 of 950 hp.
It is the only preserved H-75 in the world.
